Iranian society of cardiac surgeons (ISCS) was founded following of the efforts of its board of founders: Dr kamal Raiesi, Dr. Mohammad Bagher Tabatabaee, Dr Hamid Mirkhani, Dr Hossein Mandegar and Dr Mohammad Ali Yousefnia in 1999 for improving society health level and increasing the colleagues scientific information. First board of directories were elected in the presence of official health ministry representatives on 1999/11/19. The goals of this association activity are to achieve community health promotion and exalt the colleagues scientific information level. In the recent decade ISCS in addition to several corporative activities performed many scientific and research efforts for example: organizing congresses, seminars, scientific conferences, research programmes, publishing scientific journal.

Vital Achievements of the Society

• Organizing five board of directories election.
• conducting arranged sessions for board of directories to make decisions, follow corporative problems and association current affairs.
• Organizing congresses, seminars, scientific conferences and exhibition in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology and also training courses for perfusionists, ICU nursing care, physiotherapists
• Bi-monthly scientific conferences of ISCS were being held in order to educate, research and treatment level promotion in the field of cardiac surgery, and also to achieve more cooperation between cardiac surgery teams and to give a better treatment service to patients. In these programmes, cardiac surgeons tried to explain their surgical experiences, in addition they reported the interesting or problem cases.
• Inter-department communications with the health ministry, medical board organization, other associations and specialized scientific commissions in and outside the country.
• Try to get financial sources and certain facilities to manage ISCS affairs and perform ISCS activities like attracting the organizations and institutes support.
• ISCS made several committees of cardiac surgeons for expanding and inducing these relationships.
  These committees that focus in research activities are:
  
  • Editorial Board: Iranian Journal of Cardiac Surgery.
  • Endovascular Research.
  • Ethic Committee.
• Strategic planning for the future of cardiac surgery in Iran and determining short and long term aims for this specialty, that a committee was established in 2005 to deal with these affairs.
• Compile an educational curriculum for cardiac surgery by a committee including, members of cardiac surgery board, board of directories and cardiac surgery professors.

• Second congress of ISCS on June 14-17, 2001 in Imam Khomeini General Hospital.
• Third international congress of ISCS on September 22-25, 2003 in Seda-Sima convention center.
• 4^th international congress of ISCS on October 12-16, 2005 in Razi Convention center.
• 5^th international congress of ISCS in collaboration with German Society of cardiac surgeon on November 19-22, 2007 in Razi convention center.
• To Organize 6^th international congress of ISCS in collaboration with STS on October 6-8, 2009 in Convention Center of Milad Tower, Tehran.
